Privacy Policy
Webshot is a browser extension for screenshots and screen recording, made by Betterlogic (betterlogic.io). It needs no account and sends nothing anywhere unless you ask it to. This page explains, in plain terms, what it stores, what it can see, and the few cases where data leaves your device.

The short version
- No account and no sign-in.
- No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or usage tracking of any kind.
- Screenshots and recordings are processed and saved on your device.
- Nothing is uploaded unless you choose an upload or share option.
- We do not sell or share personal data. We do not have any to sell.
What Webshot keeps on your device
Everything below lives in your browser's extension storage on your own computer. Removing the extension removes all of it. Webshot has no separate clear-history control; captures you save to disk are ordinary files you manage yourself.
- Your settings: capture and recording preferences, the after-capture action, and the positions of the camera bubble and recording controls.
- Your most recent screenshot, kept only so the editor can open it. The next capture replaces it.
- An in-progress recording: video chunks, cursor movement, and the address, title, and icon of the page being recorded. These are deleted when you import the recording into the editor or discard it.
- Files you save go to your Downloads folder through your browser's download manager. Webshot keeps no copy.
Settings sync
Webshot stores your settings in your browser's synced extension storage. If you are signed in to your browser with extension sync turned on, your browser may copy those settings to your other devices. That sync is run by your browser vendor under its own privacy policy, not by us. Only settings sync this way, never screenshots or recordings.
What Webshot can see
Webshot only captures the tab, window, or screen you point it at, at the moment you capture. It adds a small script to pages so it can draw its capture tools and read the pixels you select. That script does not read, collect, or transmit page content.
- Screen, window, and desktop recording go through your browser's own picker. You choose the source every time.
- Microphone and camera are used only if you turn them on for a recording. Your browser asks for permission first, and you can revoke it in your browser settings.
- The clipboard is written to only when you choose to copy an image or extracted text. Webshot never reads your clipboard.
- The page address is written into a file name only if you turn on that option. It is off by default.
When data leaves your device
There are four cases, and all of them are things you choose to do.
The web editor. By default, a capture opens in the Webshot editor at webshot.net in a new tab. The image is handed directly from the extension to that tab inside your browser. It is not uploaded, and the editor runs entirely in your browser.
Uploads and share links. If you set the after-capture action to Upload, or use the editor's upload or share option, that image is sent to our server to create a shareable link. This is the only time the extension talks to our servers. Uploaded images are stored only for as long as the link needs to work; email us at the address below and we will remove an upload and its link.
AI features in the editor. These are optional and use an API key you supply yourself. When you use them, the image is sent to the AI provider under that provider's terms. Your key is kept in your browser's local storage and is never sent to us.
Fonts. The extension bundles its fonts. The web editor loads fonts from Google Fonts, which, like any web request, sees your IP address.
Permissions, and why each one is there
Chrome lists these when you install. Firefox uses a smaller set: storage, downloads, active tab, and context menus.
- Active tab and scripting: draw the capture tools on the current tab and read its pixels when you capture.
- Tab capture and desktop capture: record a tab, window, or screen. A picker asks which one every time.
- Downloads: save your files to your Downloads folder.
- Storage and unlimited storage: keep your settings and an in-progress recording on your device. Unlimited so a long recording is not cut off by the default storage cap.
- Context menus: add Webshot to the right-click menu.
- Offscreen: encode recordings in the background without an open tab.
- System display: read monitor size and scale so recordings are laid out correctly.
Your rights over your data
Almost everything Webshot touches is already in your hands: captures, recordings, and settings live on your device, where you can view, export, or delete them directly, and removing the extension deletes everything it stored.
The one thing we can hold is an image you chose to upload. Email us to have an upload and its share link deleted, and we will do it. There is no account to close and no profile to request a copy of, because none exists.
Children
Webshot is not directed at children under 13, and because it collects no personal data, it holds none about anyone.
Who is responsible for your data
Webshot is made by BetterLogic FZE (betterlogic.io), which is the data controller for the little data described above: images you choose to upload, and nothing else.
Changes to this policy
If Webshot's data handling changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. Material changes will be called out here.
