Webshot for Brave
If you chose Brave to keep your data at home, Webshot is the capture tool that agrees with you. It runs the same version Chrome does, saves everything on your device, has no account and no analytics, and installs from the Chrome Web Store like any other extension.

Install from the Chrome Web Store
- Open the Chrome Web Store listing in Brave. Use the button above. Brave has no store of its own and takes extensions straight from the Chrome Web Store without any setting to flip.
- Click Add to Chrome. The label says Chrome; Brave installs it all the same. Review the permission list, which covers the tab you capture, your Downloads folder and screen recording.
- Pin Webshot. Click the puzzle icon at the right of the address bar and pin Webshot so the camera button stays on the toolbar.
- Learn the shortcuts. Everything is bound out of the box: Ctrl+Shift+V captures the visible area, Ctrl+Shift+F the full page, and Alt+Shift+R starts a recording. Change them under Keyboard shortcuts in Webshot settings, opened from the popup menu.
How Webshot works in Brave
Full-page and element capture
Long pages are scrolled and stitched into one image. Area, element, visible and delayed captures are the other modes on the Capture tab, and a desktop screenshot goes through Brave's screen picker.
Extract Text stays offline
The text recogniser is packaged inside the extension and runs on your machine. Nothing is uploaded to read a screenshot, which is the point of using Brave in the first place.
Desktop and window recording
Brave's picker offers a display, a window or a tab. Choose a window when the thing you are showing is not in the browser.
This Tab recording
Records the current tab at its own resolution without a picker. Switching tabs does not interrupt it.
Region recording
Draw a rectangle and record only that area. The rest of the screen is never captured.
Camera-only recording
Webcam-only clips for a personal note, with the same local save and the same editor.
Camera bubble
A movable bubble shows your camera over the page and is composited into the finished recording; whole-monitor recordings lift it into a picture-in-picture window.
Microphone
Select an input in the popup. Brave asks for microphone access on first use, and the popup flags a silent input before you waste a take.
Tab and system audio
Tab audio is captured in sync during a tab recording. Desktop recordings include system audio when you tick the share-audio option in the picker.
Auto Zoom
Clicks are logged during tab recording and the editor zooms toward them, which keeps small UI legible in the final video.

Questions about Webshot on Brave
Does Webshot phone home, and would Brave block it if it did?
It does not. Webshot has no analytics and no account to sign in to, so there is nothing for it to report. The only time it goes online is when you click to upload a screenshot for a shareable link, and that never happens on its own.
Do I need to change any Brave setting to install it?
No. Brave installs Chrome Web Store extensions directly. If a site you capture behaves oddly, that is a page-level question, not a Webshot install step.
Is the Brave build different from the Chrome one?
There is no separate Brave build. Brave is a Chromium browser and runs the same package Chrome does, feature for feature.
Where are my captures kept?
In Brave's Downloads folder, or on the clipboard if you choose copy instead of save. Recordings are written to disk as they run, never held in memory or in the cloud.
Does it work in a Brave private window?
Only if you allow it. Brave, like Chrome, keeps extensions out of private windows until you enable Allow in Incognito on the extension's details page.
