Install from the Chrome Web Store
- Open the Webshot listing on the Chrome Web Store. Use the button above. The listing is published by Betterlogic and the extension name is Webshot - Screenshot & Screen Recorder.
- Click Add to Chrome and confirm. Chrome shows the permissions the extension asks for. They cover reading the tab you capture, saving files to your Downloads folder and recording the screen you pick.
- Pin the icon to the toolbar. Click the puzzle-piece button, then the pin next to Webshot. The icon opens the popup; right-clicking it reaches the options page.
- Learn the shortcuts. Webshot works out of the box: Ctrl+Shift+V captures the visible area, Ctrl+Shift+F the full page, and Alt+Shift+R starts a recording. Change any of them under Keyboard shortcuts in Webshot settings, opened from the popup menu.
How Webshot works in Chrome
Full-page and element screenshots
Chrome lets the extension scroll the page and stitch it as it goes, so long articles, dashboards and chat threads come out as one image with no seams. Visible area, selected area, element capture and a delayed capture with a countdown sit on the same Capture tab.
Extract Text from any region
Drag over part of the page and Webshot copies the words it finds. The recognition model runs inside Chrome, so nothing leaves the machine and it works with the network off.
Record your desktop or a single window
Chrome's screen picker offers the whole display, one application window or one tab. Pick a window when you want to demo a desktop app next to the browser.
Record the current tab
This Tab records exactly what the tab shows, at the tab's own resolution, without a picker. Switching to another tab does not stop it, which suits long walkthroughs where you check notes elsewhere.
Record a custom region
Draw a rectangle over the page and only that part is recorded. Useful for a single panel or a chart when the rest of the screen is noise.
Camera-only recording
Record from your webcam alone for a talking-head intro, using the same controls and the same editor afterwards.
Camera bubble while recording
The camera appears as a movable bubble over the page and is composited into the final video. On a whole-monitor recording Chrome pops it into a picture-in-picture window, so it stays visible even when you leave the browser.
Microphone narration
Choose a microphone in the popup before you start. A muted-mic reminder appears if the input is silent, which saves a lost take.
Tab and system audio
When recording a tab, Chrome hands the tab's audio to the extension, so a video call or a music player in that tab is captured in sync with the picture. Desktop recording can include system audio when you tick the share-audio box in the picker.
Auto Zoom
While recording a tab, Webshot logs where you click. The editor uses that log to zoom toward each click and ease back out, turning a flat screen recording into something that reads like a produced tutorial.

Questions about Webshot on Chrome
Does Webshot work on Chromebooks?
Yes. ChromeOS installs the same Chrome Web Store build, and desktop recording goes through the ChromeOS screen picker like any other screen share.
Which permissions does the Chrome build ask for, and why?
Chrome will say Webshot can read the page you are on, save files to your Downloads folder and record your screen. Those are the three things it does: capturing the page, saving the result and recording. It does not ask to see your browsing history or the sites you visit.
Is there a time limit on recordings in Chrome?
No fixed limit. Recordings are written to disk as they run, so length is bounded by free space, not by a plan. An optional auto-stop timer is available in the popup for when you want one.
Can I record a tab that is playing DRM video?
Protected video such as a streaming service usually renders black in any screen recorder, Webshot included. The browser enforces that, not the extension.
Does it need a Google account or a Webshot account?
Neither. The Chrome Web Store may ask you to sign in to install, as it does for any extension, but Webshot itself has no login and sends nothing anywhere unless you choose to upload a screenshot for a link.
