Which file formats does Webshot use?

Screenshots save as PNG by default, or JPG or WebP if you change the setting. Recordings are saved as WebM; the video editor exports other formats such as MP4 or GIF.

Preferences, then Screenshot, sets Image Format to PNG, JPG or WebP, and Image Quality to Low, Medium or High. PNG is lossless and the default; JPG and WebP make smaller files for photographs and long pages. Quality applies to JPG and WebP.

Recordings

Recordings are written as WebM, the format browsers record natively. It plays in every modern browser and in most players. For MP4, GIF or a trimmed clip, open the recording in the video editor and export from there.
