What data does Webshot collect?
None. There is no account, no analytics and no crash reporting. Screenshots, recordings and extracted text stay on your device unless you choose to upload a screenshot.
What stays on your device
- Every screenshot and recording, until you export or upload it.
- Text extraction, which runs inside the extension.
- Your preferences and keyboard shortcuts, kept in the browser's extension storage.
What Webshot never does
- Create an account or ask you to sign in.
- Send usage statistics, crash reports or telemetry.
- Read pages you are not capturing.
The one thing that leaves
An upload, when you pick Upload to Server or share from the editor. That is a choice you make per image, and it is the only time an image is sent anywhere.
Permissions explained
The browser lists the permissions at install. Storage and unlimited storage hold recordings while they run; downloads saves files; tab capture and desktop capture do the recording; scripting and the offscreen document let the extension work on the page and process video in the background. None of them involve a server.
