How do I pause, stop or discard a recording?

A floating control bar appears after the countdown. It pauses and resumes, stops, mutes the mic, hides the camera and discards the take. Discarding is permanent.

The countdown

Start gives you a three-second countdown by default, so you can move the mouse where you want it. Change the length, or turn it off, under More on the Record tab or in Preferences.

  • Pause / Resume holds the recording without ending it. Paused time is not in the video.
  • Stop ends the recording and saves it. Ctrl+Shift+X does the same from the page.
  • Mic mutes and unmutes your microphone.
  • Camera hides or shows the camera bubble.
  • Discard throws the recording away after a confirmation. This cannot be undone.
  • Hide tucks the bar out of the way; the recording continues. Drag the bar to move it, or collapse it to a smaller pill.

The bar is not in the video

For tab recordings the bar is drawn over the page, not into the recording. You can also switch Floating Control Bar off on the Record tab and rely on the shortcuts.

After Stop

Webshot finalises the file and then, depending on your choice, opens the editor or keeps the recording ready. See How do I get a recording into the editor?.
