How do I add my microphone and camera?

Pick a microphone and a camera from the dropdowns on the Record tab. A level meter confirms the mic hears you, and the camera appears as a draggable bubble.

  1. Choose devices

On the Record tab, open the microphone dropdown and the camera dropdown and pick the ones you want. Choose Off for either to leave it out.

  2. Check the level meter

Speak. The meter under the microphone reads Detecting Sound, then Low or High. No movement means the browser has not been allowed to use that mic; see Camera or mic not working?.

  3. Start recording

The camera shows as a round bubble you can drag anywhere. Mute the mic or hide the camera from the control bar at any time.

The microphone reminder

If you start with the microphone off, Webshot asks whether you meant to: Turn on Mic and Start, or Continue Without Audio. Switch the reminder off in Preferences if you often record silent clips.

Where the bubble ends up

Preferences has a Camera Bubble setting. Recording bakes the bubble into the video as you see it. Editor keeps the camera as a separate track so you can move and resize it afterwards. See Where is the camera bubble placed?.
